When a parent is looking for summer camps for their children, they may wonder what to expect with them. There are a few different types of camps available for various age ranges. Parents can choose from a few different sources when they are picking a place to send their kids. Many programs will take the kids on trips once a week and engage in weekly themes.

The background of some private center staff may be that they have some experience working with kids. They may be enrolled in a child type program at school and wish to work in a camp during the summer. Daycare staff members who open up camp programs will have an early childhood background. All staff will be trained in health and safety and will also have their first aid training. Employees will have training provided by the supervisor and will also get lots of books on camp style programing. Children should want to go to their daily summer program.

Parents can look for programs through various sources. Some daycare programs will offer camps throughout the summer. This type of care is separate from the regular daycare program and children are kept busy during the day. Childcare center camps will feature early childhood educated staff members. There will be a schedule that is followed everyday, with planned trips and neighborhood outings.

A private program may be based out of a popular child facility. Places such as the museum, the zoo and art galleries may have classes and programs available. Campers will follow a weekly theme that incorporates the facility program. Zoo campers will follow animal type lessons and activities. Museum students may learn about various areas of the museum and they may do different crafts based on what they see. On top of the basis of the camp, some programs will also offer weekly trips and other fun activities to take part in.

Extra care may be provided at most holiday programs. This type of care may cost the parent extra to use. Before and after hours could include a few hours before and after the camp schedule. Activities may be indoor and outdoor free play.

The program in a typical day may begin with morning activities. These early morning activities could involve school age appropriate crafts. These projects may be challenging for children and provide them with objects to take home. All campers may do the same activity which could take an hour or more to finish.

Parks could be visited, as well as outdoor free time. Kids can get involved in sports and they can use the outdoor equipment. Organized games can be planned by camp staff. Fun outdoor games could include water balloons or obstacle courses.

When someone is looking for summer Camps, they will want to make sure that they are interesting for the child. Kids should have an interest in the themes and the type of care that is offered. Each facility will offer weekly trips and weekly programming that is designed to keep children active.

So we just got home from Ephraim, WI’s annual FyrBal festival and it was awesome. It did sprinkle around 8:30 or 9 pm very briefly but it didn’t last long.

We got to the festival just in time to see the Norwegian dancers and they did not disappoint. Their uniforms were perfect and the dances were great.

After the dancers were done a short time later this years chieftain arrived. This year (2011) was Paul Wilson. His family had long ties to Ephraim and it was a well deserved honor.

From there it was time to light the bonfires. The bay was calm and it was cool to watch the bonfires get lit around the harbor at dusk. Pretty spectacular.

After the bonfires were burning about a half hour it was time for the fireworks. They were amazing. Lasted a good half hour or more before a specacular grand finale.

We had a great time.

by Mark Walters

We may be in the depths of winter at the moment, but that doesn’t mean you can’t start planning your summer vacation! It never hurts to be prepared and sometimes a little forward planning can be just the ‘pick me up’ you need when it’s cold. One thing you should always make sure to pack for a summer break is a good pair of sunglasses. The bigger the better, really, as they will protect your eyes from both the sun and the glare. Don’t forget them just because they’re small.

You should also make sure to take a selection of T-shirts with you. Tees are great for use as cover-ups on the beach if you can feel yourself burning in the sun, as well as being useful if you’re heading off to a bar or restaurant. Take a selection of colors with you so you can mix and match your outfits, but be careful not to wear anything that clashes with the amazing tan you’re sure to get. Go with loose, breathable fabrics like cotton to stay cool.

To go with your great selection of tees, make sure you take a few pairs of board shorts on your vacation. These are fantastic as they can double up as bathing shorts, saving space in your luggage. They’re also great for going out on day trips or for a casual, laidback beach look. Go for a longer length down to you knee if possible. They also fold up really small and are made from breathable fabric, making them ideal for summer vacations.

You might think it’s only women who have need of multiple pairs of shoes, but it can be a good idea to take a couple of pairs with you on vacation. They shouldn’t take up too much room in your suitcase, though, so don’t worry. The two main shoes you should take are sturdy sandals and casual flip flops, which will cater to all your needs. Flip flops are great for the beach or casual exploring on vacation, while sandals are great if you’re planning on walking any distance.

Particularly if you have fair skin, it can be a really good idea to take a few casual long-sleeve shirts with you. These will be great for protecting your shoulders from the sun as well as for if you find yourself going out for any formal meals or events. Choose light colors that reflect the sun, such as white or pale blue, as this will ensure they keep you cool even with long sleeves. You could even wear a shirt unbuttoned for a cool, casual summer vacation look.

Florida Vacations: Orlando And Beyond

Florida Vacations: Orlando And Beyond

<div style='font-style:italic>by David Wolf

Your children have persuaded you and you have finally agreed to take a Florida vacation. The children are excited and all prepared to depart. They have a strong desire to go to Orlando, and you are growing weary of hearing about Disney World on a daily basis. What’s a poor mom or dad to do? While Disney World is the most renowned vacation destination in Florida, it is not the only vacation destination.

The Orlando/Kissimmee area boasts a plentiful array of family vacation getaways. In fact, Kissimmee can be considered the laid-back, historic alternative to Orlando. Residents of Kissimmee have gone to great lengths to keep the hometown charm that the area is noted for. While water parks and resorts are present here, attractions such as Old Town, rodeos, horseback riding and a petting farm render it an ideal family vacation destination.

Other cities in the vicinity that are great family vacation destinations include, Mount Dora, great for biking trips, Polk City, for aircraft enthusiasts and Sanford, home town of the Central Florida Zoological Park.

If you go further south you will encounter Palm Beach County. Yes, that’s right, I did say Palm Beach. I know what you’re thinking. ‘Palm Beach’ and ‘family vacation getaways’ don’t go hand in hand . That’s where you may be mistaken . You just have to know where to look. West Palm Beach is perfect for that family vacation getaway, thanks to destinations such as the Norton Museum of Art and the Lion Country Safari, where visitors can see lions, giraffes, and a host of other animals, running free.

As you proceed in a northerly direction, you can provide your children with the perfect opportunity to learn more about the environment, by going to the Loggerhead Park and The Marine Life Center in Juno. Here they can be taught about turtles and go on turtle walks.

We’re not done yet. Welcome to the Florida Keys, a great place for adding more excitement to your vacation. Certainly I wouldn’t suggest you take your children diving, unless they’re accustomed to that sort of thing, but you can definitely visit Islamorada. They will enjoy the unique experience of interacting with sea lions and dolphins. You’ll also have the chance to feed the giant tarpon that gather around the docks. How many other kids will be able to say that they did that on their family vacation? As you can see by now? Disney World is not the sole option for your Florida family vacation.

Top Tips and Asia Travel Advice

by Victor Smith

The ordinary Western tourist poking around in Asian cities is usually sorely in need of some Asia travel advice, especially as relates to local laws and customs. Apart from the language, the lack of knowledge about local culture is a big hindrance, and sometimes even a danger. Something that might be very common in New York or London may be a big crime in parts of Asia.

It’s not something to be alarmed about, or worth spoiling the trip over. But tourists should know that these things change quite a lot based on the city and nation in question. A couple of examples might help clarify this some more. Take Dubai and Thailand, two places which Western tourists might assume have a lot in common.

Actually, they’re so different that it is necessary to divide travel tips for both into two separate sections. Let’s start with the Dubai travel advice, and then list the Thailand travel advice, to demonstrate how different it is. For starters, the most important thing to remember about Dubai is that they have very clear laws about alcohol and exposure and affection displays in public places.

Alcohol consumption is strictly confined to licensed restaurants and clubs in Dubai. Those who buy alcohol from a store should remember to keep it under wraps in paper bags. Driving under the influence is a strict no-no and anyone found driving with even the smallest amount of alcohol in the bloodstream will be fined or locked up.

The laws are equally strict about making out in public and indecent exposure. Tourists going to the beach in beachwear can easily break the law if they get too frisky, and the same applies when couples wearing skimpy attire in public places like malls get too hands-on, or start making out in a car. Remember that this is not just friendly advice, but a clear violation of the law that has gotten tourists arrested and put on trial.

Thailand, on the other hand, is a whole lot more open and liberal about these things. Tourists have total freedom to go wild and enjoy the urban fleshpots in Bangkok and other beach resorts. But this has its own dangers, especially when tourists go a little bit too far and experiment with drugs. A small quantity for personal use is enough to land a tourist in jail for a long, long time.

Another thing to remember in Thailand is never to disrespect the monarch or his likeness in any form – it is also a crime. Third, tourists are required to carry their passports or risk being arrested. It is also not a good idea to show off the soles of the feet in public or touch the back of someone’s head.

It’s obviously not possible here to list tips like this for every major tourist destination in Asia. But the general drift of it is that each place has its own laws and customs, so the best Asia travel advice that can be provided here is that visitors should know beforehand what is acceptable and what isn’t. Most destinations are quite friendly and welcoming, but it’s important to show some respect for local sensibilities.
